Our churches & service times

Our Parish consists of three Anglican churches, all of whom are different in their styles of worship:

Special services such as confirmation, baptisms, weddings and funerals take place regularly at all of our churches.

St John Baptist

Worship at St. John Baptist (the Parish Church of Cirencester) is both impressive in its tradition, but also in being innovative.

We worship three Sundays out of four with great dignity and beauty, with incense used at least on 24 Sundays per year. Once a month we are really creative with our All Age Service, with a range of themes and feasts, using all the ‘toolkit’ of Catholic worship, but well integrated with flags, activities, bubbles, and full (Eucharistic) inclusion of children of all ages. Please check our Youth and Children Page. We are confidently in the open Catholic Anglican tradition, but intentional in our mission through being outward looking, creative, and responsive to social issues in our community.

We worship God in the beauty of holiness and in expressing God’s hospitality in the life of the Trinity. Dedicated to St. John the Baptist, there is a fine icon of our patron saint, who will bring many blessings to the life of our church. There is a ‘Silent Hour’ every Monday (except Bank Holidays) and a daily Eucharist at Noon. The church is open to visitors and pilgrims daily from 10.00am until 5.00pm, and about 1000 votive candles are lit weekly for prayer in the Trinity Chapel.

The 8.00am Eucharist and 4.00pm Evensong are according to the Book of Common Prayer.

Holy Trinity, Watermoor

God has been worshipped for over 175 years here at Holy Trinity. Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, we are situated in an area that grew up in the 1850s and still consider ourselves to be a beating heart at the centre of Watermoor.

Our congregation is drawn largely from within Cirencester but many, who come from further away, feel drawn to our especially friendly and welcoming worship and fellowship. The welcome at Holy Trinity is always warm, and whether you are 9 months old or 90 plus, you will find yourself at home.

We are called by God to be welcoming and prayerful people, empowered by the Holy Spirit in every part of our mission and ministry. We aim to glorify and serve God at all times, living and working for his Kingdom of justice and peace.

We are part of the Parish of Cirencester, but like the other churches in the parish we retain something special of our own. We feel especially blessed here at Holy Trinity Church, benefiting both from the support of the wider parish, but also retaining our distinctive blend of formal and informal worship.

The church has strong links with Watermoor Primary school which caters for children aged between 4 and 11 years of age.

There is also a church hall, available for a variety of functions, parties and meetings.

Our main act of worship is at 10 o’clock on Sunday mornings. We are an inclusive and very welcoming church, whatever your age, and whatever your outlook on life.

For those who like to meet God in a quieter and more contemplative way, we also have a smaller Holy Communion service both on Sundays at 8am and on Wednesdays at 7pm.

Together, we try to hold the very best of worship, from the beautifully crafted words of Common Worship through the seasons, to the more modern ways of engaging with our creator in our all-age-worship.

Three weeks out of four we enjoy organ and choir accompaniment to our singing, and on the first Sunday of the month we worship all together, with a music group and a more informal liturgy.

At 10am on Sundays Trinity Kids is a group for children who meet in the hall next door to the church. The children come into service to share in the Holy Communion aspect of the service. Please check our Youth and Children Page.

There is one ‘Community Eucharist’, on Sundays at 10:30am, which is suitable for all ages. And for those who prefer a quieter service, there is a small service of Holy Communion at 10.30am on the first Wednesday of the month.

On the first and third Sundays of the month there is a Restore@4 service of informal worship, prayer and bible study (4pm – 5pm).
